Retail
In a store, the terminal works close to the customer: the sales associate checks a price, looks for a product on the shelf, does inventory before opening. What matters here is a light device with a large screen that scans fast and looks good.

Typical tasks
- Checking price and stock right at the shelf
- Inventory and revaluation without closing the store
- Receiving goods from a supplier and checking them against the delivery note
- Relabeling when prices change
- Mobile checkout and service on the sales floor, where customer flow requires it
- Online orders: preparing and handing over parcels
What to look for
Smartphone shape. For retail, terminals with a 5–6 inch touchscreen are a good fit: they are held in one hand and are quick to learn. One example from the Zebra range is the TC22/TC27, a light and affordable model with variants for mobile checkout, payments and RFID. For heavier workloads there are the TC53e/TC58e.
Scanner. For shelf labels and codes on small packages, a standard engine is enough. If you scan from a longer distance (for example high shelves), choose extended-range variants.
Battery life. A device must last a work shift. Extended batteries and hot-swappable ones are useful where the store runs around the clock.
Durability. In a store, the terminal gets dropped less often than in a warehouse, but it still gets dropped. With a case and IP54–IP65 protection, the risk of damage drops considerably.
Mobile checkout. For payments and mobile checkout, check whether the chosen model supports NFC, and whether the checkout software and fiscal module are compatible with Android.
